Channel 43 is an online public access station that focuses on progressive horror, innovative science fiction, and all things unexplained. It is owned and operated by the experimental television station TeleUphoria Media Network.

Like our other stations, it adheres to the aesthetics of the 80s and 90s through design elements, conversion to VHS tapes, and additional analog video effects. With commercials, bumpers, and PSAs in between each video and film, the program is exhibited in the format of a television broadcast with designated air dates and times. We even provide viewers with a free downloadable TV Guide complete with artist statements, project info, and more!

guidelines

- Submissions must fall under at least one of the following genres: Horror, Science Fiction, Mystery, and/or Paranormal/Crypid investigation. All sub-genres are welcome.

- Though we only have 3 categories, we accept all forms of video making and support experimentation. Just choose the category that best suits your submission. Remember, we encourage pushing the boundaries of format!

- For our Television Show category we welcome all types of shows. Examples include, but are not limited to: crafting, cooking, shopping, home improvement, talk shows, soap operas, sitcoms, children's programming, religious programming, instructional, investigative, and so forth.

- Though we include commercials, bumpers, trailers, and public service announcements in our broadcasts, we DO NOT accept these as submissions. This material is created by TeleUphoria and Channel 43.

- Short Film/Video and Television Show submissions must be between 3 - 20 minutes long. Documentary submissions can be between 5 - 30 minutes long.

- Entries that perpetuate bigotry of any kind will IMMEDIATELY be rejected. This project is about creating progressive and innovative art, not clinging to harmful ideologies.

- We love visual effects! As we mentioned before, we are all for combining digital and analog. Feel free to include as many effects and filters as you see fit. BUT please do not add a faux VHS filter onto your submission. Channel 43 will handle the tape transfer process for you. However, if your submission is already shot on a digital tape format or has been processed with analog equipment, it will not be transferred to tape.

- Submissions must be turned in as a MP4 or QuickTime file. Please make sure your file is configured for NTSC as well.

terms + conditions

1). By submitting, you agree to let Channel 43 and TeleUphoria Media Network use portions of your entry for promotional purposes.

2). We have a YouTube channel that we use to curate the broadcast after all reruns have aired. However, you can choose to opt out of this if your entry is accepted.

3). By submitting to Channel 43, you understand that your entry will be converted to VHS if it is accepted. If your submission was shot on a digital tape format or already processed with analog equipment, then your entry will not be transferred to tape.

So, is this a part of Miller’s Grove Public Access?

Channel 43 is a sibling station to MGPA and functions very much the same way. Both channels are owned and operated by TeleUphoria Media Network. This means both channels adhere to the network’s house style and exhibition format. Channel 43 also has the same dedication to expanding the arts community as its affiliates.

What kinds of video work can we submit?

Anything you would see on public access, so the possibilities are endless! We even accept short form documentaries and music videos! If you watched the 2020 MGPA broadcast, you noticed we’ve gotten even more conceptional. Push format and boundaries. It’s the spice of life!

Who can submit to this project?

Anyone.

How will this be curated?

Channel 43 will premiere in the Summer of 2021 as a livestream via Twitch with several scheduled broadcast dates. Like Miller’s Grove Public Access, Channel 43 will have a similar television broadcast structure with commercials and bumpers. Plus all broadcasts will continue to be available on YouTube after their final air date.

Is this an ongoing video project?

Yes, it most certainly is! So no need to worry if you miss out this time around. TeleUphoria intends to keep all of their channels going with annual open calls. We plan to rotate these each year as well. Which channel is next? Well, you’ll just have to tune in during our next broadcast to find out ;)

What’s the entry fee?

Early Bird Deadline (02/28/21) = $10

Regular Deadline (03/21/21) = $15

Late Deadline (04/10/21) = $20

Why is there an entry fee for Channel 43 and not one for MGPA?

MGPA is an extremely niche project that focuses on uplifting the voices of marginalized artists in the mental health community. Channel 43 is open to everyone and exhibits a wide variety of content, topics, and genres. Because of these factors, we expect far more submissions for Channel 43. That means more time and energy on our part. This is not only during the review process, but also on our end in terms of production and final presentation. Unlike most exhibitions and online festivals, we create original content to compliment all of the featured submissions. And though “we” bill ourselves as an organization, a good deal of the work is done by one person. When you throw in shooting and acting in a good deal of that content plus editing and sound design, that’s a lot.

What do my submission fees go towards?

Like subscription fees for our Patreon, your submission fees go directly towards maintaining MGPA, Channel 43 and helping TeleUphoria Media Network grow! We hope to have more channels in the future, so we can continue to offer unique experiences to video makers as well as provide them with videomaking resources (through our Video For All project).

Where do I apply and how do I pay the entry fee?

At the moment, Channel 43 is closed for submissions. But we will make an announcement on our social media once we launch another open call. We’re adding a new station this Summer and will begin an annual rotation of all three after that.

But to answer your question, TeleUphoria Media Network is switching to Film Freeway for all future open calls.
