about the show

MGPA is producing a new show that examines systematic pressures placed on men and the lasting impact it has on their mental health. We are searching for men 50+ years old who are willing to share their stories.

Certain cultural masculine norms can be harmful to men and society overall. These are more commonly referred to as toxic masculinity. Our goal with this new show is to shine light on the harmful effects of conforming to these systematic pressures for men to behave like “men” and not themselves.

guidelines

  • Stories submitted must be your own and must be about your experiences with your personal mental health.

  • Due to COVID-19, this project will have to be produced long distance meaning all applicants must be willing to appear on camera and have the ability to record themselves telling their story by video and audio means.

  • Send us a written or audio version of your story or if you’re feeling lucky, send us your video! To be considered, we must receive your story in 1 of the 3 forms mentioned above by 06/26/20.

  • The chosen applicant will be notified no later than 06/28/20.

  • If you choose to submit written or audio only and are selected, you will need to stay in contact with miller’s grove public access during the duration of production. We will be responsible for editing the show, but all of your video files must be turned in by 07/24/20.

  • Stories must be between 3 - 8 minutes long. Please rehearse your story before submitting.

  • Your video only needs to be shot as a talking head interview (multiple takes/starts and stops are perfectly fine), but you are encouraged to send additional shot variations as well. B-roll is welcome, but not mandatory.

  • At this time, MGPA can only take English submissions for this show.
